A third of its residents lived below the poverty line, and even essential community resources like schools weren’t spared, as the aging T.M. Peirce Elementary School was slated for demolition due to severe health hazards and shifting demographics.

    Change arrived in an unlikely moment—amidst a global pandemic. Residents, city school leaders, and designers collaborated virtually to reimagine education in the area. Their effort culminated in North Philly’s first new school in seven decades: a beacon of hope for a long-neglected community.
