Inspira Health Network commissioned Blackney Hayes Architects to improve its waiting rooms, patient holding areas and staff locker rooms on the third floor of Underwood Hospital. The existing waiting rooms consisted of one room for ICU family members that was located directly across from the main elevator lobby, which provided no privacy for family members of patients facing critical medical care. The OR waiting room consisted of a small, dark area that inadequately contained the volume of family and friends. Patient updates were given in the corridor, again allowing for no privacy between staff and family members. Uni-sex patient changing rooms were located across the corridor and not adjacent to the operating rooms which did not allow for efficient work and patient traffic flow.
