The Council on Open Building is an international organization focused on designing for change, honoring the embodied energy in our existing built fabric, and decoupling the uses and components within to create a resilient, sustainable, and less financially risky development environment. Last week, BHA’s Principal Darin Jellison attended this year’s conference in Boston, presenting some adaptive reuse projects from BHA, and leading a design charrette to educate participants on the process of designing a truly open building. The group also enjoyed a walking tour of MIT, keynote by Tracy Hadden Loh of the Brookings Institute, and case studies from experts from California to the Netherlands and beyond.
