  • Reviving a Forgotten Icon

Once Derelict, Now Thriving in Center City

For years, the Liberty Title and Trust Company stood as a 22-story symbol of neglect—a once-grand office building, now a forgotten relic. But today, it thrives as a masterfully restored hotel, reclaiming its place in downtown Philadelphia’s architectural landscape.

  • Preservation Meets Modern Innovation

Historic Upgrades Blend Seamlessly with Contemporary Design

Originally constructed in 1925, Liberty Title and Trust was the only historically significant building spared demolition during the construction of the city’s convention center. Blackney Hayes, with a commitment to preserving the building’s legacy, led this transformative project. By pursuing historic tax credits, upgrading the building envelope for energy efficiency, overhauling MEP systems, and introducing a modern addition for retail and back-of-house space, the team brought this long-dormant structure back to life at the bustling corner of Broad and Arch Streets.

  • Heritage Reimagined for Today

Creative Design Brings History to Life

Blackney Hayes honored the building’s heritage while reimagining its potential. Creative repurposing of original bank vaults and safety deposit boxes now enrich the guest experience. Sensitive rehabilitation of the facade and windows ensured historic integrity. And the once-static lobby now flows with energy, capped by a rooftop bar accessible via a grand stairway—a fitting celebration of the building’s revival.
